At the beginning of the project our focus was on marine conservation education and tackling the problem of plastic pollution. It was important to us to get the local people involved in the conservation of their reef. We have since been working with 350 children from two local schools, groups of fishermen as well as other villagers about the importance of marine conservation and the problems associated with discarded plastic. Many locals were shocked to discover just how long the plastic would last in the environment. We like to think that with continued education the unsustainable, throw away attitude of people in this area may change.
